Spherosyn 2G Encoder

Regular price $0.00 USD
Accuracy: +/-0.0004" (10 micron)
Selectable Resolutions: 0.0005", 0.0002"
Repeatability: Within One Resolution Count
Certificates of Accuracy are included with all Newall scales.
Spherosyn™ encoders are designed to give you consistent accuracy and reliability under even the harshest shop conditions. Based on the principle of electromagnetics, Newall's analog encoders embody a truly innovative design in which all of the electronic and measuring components are sealed and protected. The encoders carry an IP67 (NEMA 6) environmental rating and will continue to provide accurate and reliable readings even when submerged in water, oil, and coolant.
Encoder Benefits
  • IP67 (NEMA 6)
  • Withstands dust, dirt, oil and other environmental conditions
  • No mechanical wear characteristics
  • Requires no cleaning or maintenance
  • High tolerance to shock and vibration

Consistent accuracy and reliability even under the most extreme shop conditions

Designed to work exclusively with Newall's digital readouts, the Spherosyn™ encoders embody a truly innovative design in which all of the electronics and measuring components are sealed and protected. The encoders carry an IP67 environmental rating and will continue to provide accurate, reliable readings even when fully submerged in water, oil or coolant. No other linear encoder matches the durability and reliability of Newall's reader heads and scales.

Standard travel lengths up to 11 meters.

Environmental Protection
All variants of Newall linear encoders carry an Ingress Protection (IP) rating of 67 (IEC 529). The encoders are fully submersible and will continue to provide accurate and dependable readings under the harshest conditions. Dirt, swarf, cast iron dust, graphite dust and other common contaminants will not affect the performance of the linear encoder system.

Accuracy, Repeatability, and Resolution
The laser measurement system used to calibrate all of Newall scales have been calibrated by accredited laboratories providing traceability to UK national standards. The procedures comply with the requirements of British Standard Specification BS5781/International Standard ISO10012-1. The National Physical Laboratory (NPL) calibrates the master standard, certificate number 08A014/9501. All Newall Calibration rigs are traceable back to this NPL standard. The calibration of the Newall scales and reader heads is conducted in a temperature controlled 69.8°F (21°C) environment.

Shock and Vibration
In comparison to other linear displacement technologies, Newall's linear encoders are tolerant to high degrees of vibration and shock.

  • Shock and Impact (11ms IEC 69-2-6):
    Spherosyn™ technology = 1000m/s2 (100g)
  • Vibration (55 - 2000Hz IEC 68-2-27):
    Spherosyn™ technology = 300m/s2 (30g)

High Traverse Rate

Newall linear encoders will not skip count even at high traverse rates. Travel rates of up to 2 meters per second can be achieved, while the Absolute encoder version carries a slew rate of up to 196.85’ (60m)/second.

Reliability
Newall linear encoders require no regular cleaning or maintenance, unlike non-contact systems; the linear encoders have no general wear characteristics. There are no LEDs to burn out or glass scales to get scratched or broken. There are no roller bearings, leaf springs or other moving parts to wear out or fail.

Ease of Installation
Installation is simple and forgiving and can be accomplished in a fraction of the time as compared to other linear encoder systems. Even with scale lengths up to 36’ (11m), machined surfaces or backing bars are not needed. For more compact installations, scales less than 20” (508mm) in length need only be supported on one end of the scale. Unlike tape-based systems, they do not rely on a head-to-tape gap height that can vary due to pitch, roll, and yaw of a machine’s traveling axis.

Thermal Expansion
The thermal behavior of the linear encoder is an essential criterion for the working accuracy of a machine tool. And thus it is common knowledge that the thermal behavior of the linear encoder should match that of the workpiece. Newall encoders carry a coefficient of thermal expansion of 12ppm, the same as steel/iron.

In comparison to glass based encoders, a 50°F (10°C) temperature rise can result in a thermal expansion error in the order of  0.0016" (40μm) over 39.4" (1m) of travel. Newall encoders will expand and contract at the same rate as the machine tool and machined part resulting in better accuracy performance.

TP20 Probe

TP20 Probe

Regular price $0.00 USD

Compact module changing touch-trigger probe, which allows the use of a range of stylus configurations and extensions to access features on complex parts.

The TP20 is a compact 5-way, or 6-way, kinematic touch-trigger probe system. The two-piece design, comprising probe body and detachable stylus module(s), connected using a highly repeatable magnetic kinematic coupling. This provides the facility to change stylus configurations either manually or automatically without the need for requalification of the stylus tips, thereby giving significant time savings in inspection routines.

Modules offering a range of trigger forces allow the probe performance to be best matched to the measurement task. A set of probe extensions is also available, as is a 6-way module. The stylus mounting thread accepts styli from the Renishaw M2 range.

The TP20 system is easily retrofitted and is compatible with existing touch-trigger probe interfaces, extensions and adaptors.

System components

The system components are:

  • TP20 probe body
  • TP20 probe module - seven variants allow optimization to suit application
  • MCR20 or TCR20 module changing rack - automatic operation
  • MSR1 module storage rack - manual operation
  • Suitable for interfacing with Renishaw's PI 7-3, PI 200-3 and UCC controllers

TP200 Probe
TP200 Probe
Renishaw

TP200 Probe

Regular price $0.00 USD

A compact, module-changing probe that uses strain-gauge mechanisms for higher accuracy and longer life than kinematic touch-trigger probes.

The TP200 system components are:

  • TP200 or TP200B probe body (the TP200B is a variant with increased vibration tolerance)
  • TP200 stylus module - choice of fixed overtravel forces: SF (standard force) or LF (low force)
  • PI 200-3 probe interface
  • SCR200 stylus change rack

There is also an EO module (extended overtravel) which has the same overtravel force as the SF but provides increased operating range and protection in the probe Z-axis.

Features and benefits

  • Strain-gauge technology offers excellent repeatability and precision 3D form measurement
  • Zero reseat errors
  • No lobing effect
  • 6-way measuring capability
  • Stylus reach of up to 100 mm (GF styli)
  • Rapid probe module changing without the need to re-qualify the stylus tips
  • Life of >10 million triggers

TP200 / TP200B probe body

The TP200 probe uses micro strain gauge transducers to deliver excellent repeatability and accurate 3D form measurement even with long styli.

The sensor technology gives sub-micron repeatability and eliminates the lobing characteristics encountered with kinematic probes. The solid state ASIC electronics within the probe ensure reliable operation over millions of trigger points.

The TP200B uses the same technology as TP200 but has been designed to have higher tolerance to vibration. This helps to overcome the problem of 'air' trigger generation which can arise from vibrations transmitted through the CMM or when using long styli with faster positioning speeds.

Please note that we do not recommend the use of TP200B with the LF module or cranked / star styli.

TP6 and TP6A Probe

Regular price $0.00 USD

Robust kinematic probes with M8 and autojoint mounting options.

The TP6 and TP6A probes have different probe mount options (M8 thread and autojoint respectively). Both probes are kinematic touch-trigger probes and have manually adjustable trigger force for optimum probe performance with different stylus configurations.

They can carry long styli (M3 range), are 25 mm (1 in) in diameter, providing substantial overtravel for excellent robustness.
